What is the Pulse?
The Pulse is Sacred Heart University's student produced television news magazine program.
The Pulse program transcends from popular news programs such as CBS's "60 Minutes," or NBC's "Nightly News," showcasing university and local community feature stories.
Our student reporters learn to develop and fine tune their technical and editorial skills needed to enter the workforce as digital multimedia journalists and/or digital multimedia production professionals. Emphasis is placed on research, writing, interviewing, reporting, and technical camera and studio production skills.
The Pulse is advised by Professor Joseph Alicastro, a 30 plus year veteran Producer of NBC News. He lends his experience, expertise, and knowledge from an extensive career in the broadcasting industry. As the former Rome Bureau Chief, Prof. Alicastro covered breaking news spanning the globe such as: the fall of the Berlin Wall, the breakup of the Soviet Union, the Gulf War, and many more. He was also the Senior Producer of NBC News Education Nation, working in conjunction with the VisionProject.org. Alicastro stands as a seven time Emmy Award nominee and the recipient and winner of three News & Documentary Emmy Awards. In addition to his role as Executive Producer of the Pulse, Prof. Alicastro is the current Coordinator of News & Broadcasting in the Master's of Communication program at Sacred Heart University.
